As awareness of and concern for environmental
issues grows, AIB remains in the forefront when
it comes to adopting environmentally-friendly
policies and practices. From incorporating green
themes into our cable and broadband programming
to offering employees easily accessible
recycling bins for paper, glass and plastic, we
use efficient technologies as well as green
products and services as they become available.
We continue to take the lead in putting green
initiatives into practice - in a cost-effective,
timely manner. We also embrace our role as a
conduit for sharing and disseminating
information and expertise about environmental
issues with the wider community, acknowledging
its role as a community citizen. |

AIB is proud to be a recipient of the 2010
Grants to Green Assessment Award. We are in the
process of renovating an additional building
structure adjacent to our existing office and
studio space. Check in frequently for pictures,
video and tips as we strive to lessen our carbon
footprint and save on energy costs. |

- Commit to turning off computers and
printers during non working hours - even
better, make sure to plug these items into a
power strip, turning it off when not in use.
- Recycle equipment, electronics, cell
phones and batteries (most office supply
stores provide recycling).
- Set up recycling bins in the break room
for paper, plastics, glass and metal (in
small offices, establish a "green" contact
to take materials to a recycle location).
- Eliminate use of all incandescent
lighting by changing out light fixtures to
fluorescent. ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs use
about 75% less energy than standard
incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times
longer.

- Computers, televisions, coffee makers,
chargers and most other electronics
equipment use power, even when turned off.
- It takes glass two million years to
decompose, which means it can be recycled an
infinite amount of times.
- Paper can be recycles 7 times before the
fibers are too small to use again.
- Metals can be recycled infinitely.
- One tree can filter up to 60 pounds of
pollutants from the air each year.
- Plastics can take up to 400 years to
break down in a landfill.
- The energy saved by recycling 1 bottle
will power a computer for 25 minutes.
- If you recycle just two gallons of used
oil, it can generate enough electricity to
run an average household for almost 24
hours.
