Defeating the Strongman
The Rev. Robyn Green-O'Neal of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Decatur, GA, will present seven evening sessions on spiritual warfare called, Defeating the Strongman. For the many women facing divorce, tough economic times, widowhood, family violence, substance abuse in their homes or financial problems, the series explores the concept of spiritual warfare and what tools others have used to overcome such adversity. Addiction, Recovery and Prescription Drugs Educational Workshop
An enlightening evening from SICD whose mission is to provide addictions education and resources to congregations and communities. Concert with a Cause, the Raleigh Ringers

Catellier Dance Projects
Seven dancers, a dance media artist, a composer, a team of designers, a control technician, a robot camera, and nine six-foot balloons come together for
“…the final frontier,” a new work from Catellier Dance Projects, premiering at Emory’s Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts, May 17th through the 19th. Catellier Dance Projects through the guidance of artistic director, Gregory Catellier, creates “intimate, multi-layered dance performances for the discerning Atlanta community.” Their current project is a series of four evening-length works that each ruminates on a different element of dance: time, space, energy and body. This piece is the second of such works, with “Tempo, a non-fiction dance performance” kicking off the series last May. In “…the final frontier,” Catellier takes a leap forward into more ambitious territory, focusing on spatial relationships through the exploration of architecture, outer space, and what it means to be close. Public Meeting
The Concerned Citizens for the Educational Advancement of Atlanta Public Schools Students
, a coalition of retired Atlanta Public school system educators and concerned citizens, will host a public meeting on Monday, May 21, from 6p.m. until 8p.m. at Frederick Douglass High School, 225 Hamilton E. Holmes Drive. The goal of the coalition is to offer proposals to enhance the state of the school system through improved discipline creating an increased educational atmosphere conducive to learning. This public meeting will be one of many designed to develop recommendations to members of the board of education and superintendent.

School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs
Family Restoration Outreach Ministry announce their summer lunch program. Summer is here and it's time to prepare for breaks, vacations and camps. During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. What happens ...when school lets out? Well here is an option that you may not be aware of that may help you and your family this summer. The USDA Summer Food Service Program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need. Children 18 and younger may receive free meals and snacks through SFSP. Meals and snacks are also available to persons with disabilities, over age 18, who participate in school programs for people who are mentally or physically disabled.

The Beatitudes Society
Each year, The Beatitudes Society honors prophetic preaching with the Brave Preacher Award. This year, the cultural context of the Brave Preacher Award is violence. Sermons will be considered with attention to the preacher’s context, content, craft and connection to scripture. Emerging preachers—those who are under age 45 and in their first 10 years of ministry—are encouraged to apply, and listeners encourage your preacher to apply. is the focus of CSLR's When Law and Religion Meet Lecture Series, 2012-2013, with two esteemed Emory Law faculty,  Martha A. Fineman and Barbara B. Woodhouse,  leading off the discussion on September 13. Fineman will introduce the theme of "human vulnerability," including those in religious communities. Communities in Schools, our nation's leading dropout prevention organization, is currently seeking elementary school tutors to help in the Marietta/Cobb County area. Studies have shown that a child who reads proficiently by 3rd grade is more likely to graduate from high school. Schwartz Center Announces 10th Anniversary Season
Celebrating a decade of outstanding music and dance, Emory’s Schwartz Center for Performing Arts announces the season for the 2012-2013 Flora Glenn Candler Concert Series. Counseling Center several months ago. The center, under the direction of Dr. Pete Hutchings, is located at 5054 Nandina Lane, Suite B, Dunwoody 30338, and serves clients on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Members of the church and community may make appointments by calling the Center or by requesting a referral from the Dunwoody UMC clergy staff. The Center is a Christian-based center offering individual counseling for depression, anxiety, grief, and substance abuse issues. CDC Disease Detective Camp
The David J. Sencer CDC Museum is pleased to announce the 2012 CDC Disease Detective Camp (DDC)  held at CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. DDC is an academic day camp for upcoming high-school juniors and seniors who will be 16 years old by the first day of camp. Dates for the 2012 sessions are June 18-22 and July 16-20, and applications are now available at http://www.cdc.gov/museum/camp/about.htm. Application to the camp is open to the public. Each session will include the same activities, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. There are no camp fees, but each camper is responsible for bringing or buying his/her lunch. Please note that admission to the CDC Disease Detective Camp is competitive.  Applications are ranked by an independent panel, so it is important that essays are thoughtfully written and all required components are included. Peacebuilders Teen Camp
The first Peacebuilders Teen Camp took place from June 13-18, 2011. Sixteen kids from various walks of life came together for a week of learning, communal living, and play and left with new ideas and new friends. Get a glimpse of camp life by viewing the photos and videos posted on the website: www.peacebuilderscamp.org. Peacebuilders has been supported and helped by Diaz Foods, the Fuller Center for Housing, the Open Door community, the Emory School of Nursing and dozens of folks who donated to the scholarship fund. If you are interested in supporting this amazing opportunity for young people you will find information at www.peacebuilderscamp.org.

Family Orientations are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month for families impacted by incarceration. If you are expecting a family member to return home soon, if you are supporting someone who has been in jail, prison, or detention center, you have a place to come for information to help during the reentry and stabilization process. WellSpring Living and Hope House
Our advocacy is important in stopping human trafficking but we want you to know about some basic things needed at WellSpring Living and Hope House, shelters that provide services to female victims of human trafficking. These girls are United States citizens, 12 – 18, and usually have been victims of sex trafficking. The organizations need towels, gift cards, paper products, and cleaning supplies. Georgia Interfaith Power and Lightstrong
Congregations that have received a Power Wise Energy Audit can also sign up to host a Home Energy Audit Training Class to teach congregants about saving money and energy in their own homes. Georgia Interfaith Power and Light held one of these classes at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in November, and two in Milledgeville and Macon in March.  If your congregation is interested in hosting a Home Energy Audit Training Class, the first step is to get a Power Wise Energy Audit. Senior Connections
Free home repairs for seniors are now available from Senior Connections, a 38-year old nonprofit working to keep seniors living independently in their homes. Funds are available for homeowners in DeKalb and Fulton Counties age 62 or older. (Certain restrictions and qualifications guidelines apply.) Zip Codes included are  30030, 30031, 30032, 30034, 30310, 30311, 30314, 30315, 30316, 30317, 30318, and 30319. Areas with greatest eligibility: East Lake, Belvedere, Towers, Adamsville and Pittsburgh. Please note: Funds are based on census track so some areas within the zips will not be eligible. Looking for a mission project? Would your church donate a new water-saving toilet for the Santa Fe Villa? Would your church volunteer to install that toilet? The Santa Fe Villas is 150 units of apartments for formerly homeless and people with disabilities.

Care and Counseling Center of Georgia has offered a monthly workshop for engaged couples at The Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30305, since 1985.  Research has shown that couples who participate in premarital education have more realistic expectations, handle conflict better, and have improved communication skills. Workshops are open to all denominations. Delta Air Lines' Atlanta Reservations department and Family Life Ministries in East Point have created a clothing boutique and career center where women experiencing financial hardship can go to seek career development services and business attire assistance. The Georgia Supportive Housing Association now offers Supportive Housing Tours for congregations. A 3-hour tour may be scheduled on a Saturday or a weekday and will include visits to Hope House, Trinity House, Welcome House, and Gateway Center.
